Three practical ways to evaluate NetMute.
Follow one familiar app
Open an app, inspect its destinations and compare the recognised services with what you expected. A connection alone does not prove what data was sent or whether consent was given.
Block a destination, then test the app
Pick a recognised tracking destination, block it and test the app features you use. Record both the result and any side effects.
Check your browser setup
Use the browser protection check with your normal DNS and VPN settings. Historical block counts from different browsing sessions are not comparable protection rates.

Icon and name
- NetMute is one word, with a capital N and a capital M. Not Netmute, not Net Mute.
- The paid tier is called NetMute Pro. There is no Premium and no subscription.
- The icon may be scaled and placed on any background. Please do not recolour it, stretch it or add effects.
- Balane GmbH is the company, NetMute is the product. Either is fine in a byline; they are not interchangeable.
Where NetMute does and does not reach
The most useful part of a press kit is the part a marketing page leaves out. All of this is checkable.
Destinations are not message contents
Recognised domains help identify services. They do not reveal the content of encrypted requests or establish an app’s intent.
Coverage depends on the setup
Browser DNS, VPNs, Private Relay and available destination names can affect filtering. Test the configuration you actually use with the protection check.
Optional online features
Public blocklists require downloads; encrypted DNS sends queries to a resolver. Enabled community contributions share tracker and app information. Consult the app privacy policy for the data involved.
Not a VPN or antivirus
NetMute does not hide your public IP address or scan files for malware. Blocking can affect app functionality.

About the maker
NetMute is built by Jonas Höttler at Balane GmbH in Munich. It is a one person product: the same person writes the code, the release notes and the support replies, which is why the app's About screen carries his inbox.
A blocked page that simply hangs teaches a user nothing except that the tool is broken. Most of the work in NetMute is not the blocking. It is saying, in a sentence anyone can read, what was blocked and what to do about it.
